The “friendly wheelchair” first came to life in a homeowner’s garage in Bridgeport, Michigan in 1968. Founder, Al Thieme, was personally motivated to create this product in order to help a family member diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The Amigo, as it was brand-named, initiated the entire “scooter” industry. Since then, thousands of people with mobility limitations around the world have experienced personal freedom and independence on their USA-made Amigo power operated vehicles (POVs).
